Wave sailing is the jewel in the crown of windsurfing. It is dynamic and challenging, and just a whole lot of fun! In the real world, away from places of perfection such as Maui, the gear needs to be a little different. Mainly it needs to be bigger and faster to cope with the gnarly shore break, strong currents and fluky winds of the real world.
Finally, a board for the real world! Available by order only, the new Maui Malone's Wave 135.......
I designed this board to perform in the ocean in the real conditions that most coastal sailors face on a regular basis. From less than 10 knots and up to 20 this board will float you out through the gnarliest of breaks, and let you catch a ride and achieve the kind of turns that will have you hooting and hollering. This board that can turn those days of disappointment into days of glory.
With a three fin set up, you have amazing versatility in setting up the board for different conditions. My personal favorite is twin, with a smaller trailer fin. This gives a very tight turn, while maintaining some good grip. For larger waves, and stronger winds the thruster set up gives a more backfoot oriented ride.
Early planing is a hallmark of this design. This board can plane in around 12 knots with a 6.1 sail! Although I have set up the first board as a single back straps design, we can put forward straps on yours if you want them.
Handmade in the USA, we start with a CAD designed, CNC shaped EPS blank. Laminated with unidirectional carbon, and biaxial glass, it is plenty strong and still light weight. Certain aspects of the build can be custom tailored to your specific requirements, so contact me for details.

RRD has a design which will work for you no matter what your particular style is in the waves. With a Twin Fin design that goes back many years before the hype, their highly developed design is available in 5 sizes.
The RRD Quad fin boards are back and include some new contest versions that are super light and ridiculously strong. The 100 liter one is sure to be perfect for most days of wavesailing on the East Coast.
They also have updated their Freestyle Wave lineup and it is awesome! It feels like a true wave board down the line, but planes up super early and is amazingly comfortable in chop with the super cushioning dual density footpads! Available in 7 sizes and 2 constructions! New wider and shorter designs take them to the next level in performance!
Now available a lightly used 2010 RRD 84 Thruster board. This is a super loose and still very quick board for ripping up the waves! Yours for only $1300 ($2099 retail!).
The board on the left is 253 x 54.5, it is 79 liters. An awesome fast wave rocker for down the line conditions, and sails below 5.5. The board on the right is 252 x 58, it is 89 liters. Also a fast wave rocker designed for on or side onshore conditions with sails up to 6.2. Both boards are from 2000, shaped by Richard Greene for me. They are the same as the 2001 JP radical wave shapes with the beveled rail bottom design. These boards are both very light, only minor scratches. $299 each including a Vector Maui onshore fin.
